Job Overview
This position is assigned to the McDowell County Parks and Recreation Department as a Full Time
Position. Work hours will vary based on need with evening hours being needed throughout the year to
assist with programs; Monday through Friday and occasional weekend days. Physical requirements are
standing for long periods of time, lifting up to 100 pounds, walking long distances, working outside in
heat and cold, and riding in vehicles.​

​Duties & Responsibilities
​​
The person in this position will serve as a hybrid between the Maintenance and Programs divisions in
Parks and Recreation. This person will assist Maintenance staff with items such as; mowing, trimming,
and spraying parks under Parks and Recreation’s control. This person will also assist in ballfield prep
such as dragging, lining and setting up ballfields during our youth and adult seasons. This person will
assist in overall maintenance of the main gymnasium and other buildings throughout the county. This will
require general maintenance knowledge and basic janitorial functions. This person will assist Program
staff in planning for youth and adult seasons along with providing support staffing for events put on by
Programs. This position will serve as the primary gym attendant providing coverage for gymnasium usage
throughout the year. This position is intended to provide relief across departments during “peak” seasons.
This person will also assist at The Black Bear Campground & Park and McDowell County Shooting
Range as needed. Other specific duties and responsibilities will be discussed with the applicant during the
interview process.
