Position Objectives


The McDowell County Public Library is seeking a dynamic and customer-focused Circulation
Manager to lead our circulation team and ensure a welcoming, efficient, and positive
experience for all patrons. In this role, you will oversee daily circulation desk operations,
support frontline staff, and work collaboratively with other library departments to enhance

Duties & Responsibilities

● Manage the daily operations of the circulation desk, including check-ins/outs, issuing
library cards, and fee processing.
● Ensure circulation policies and procedures are consistently applied and followed by staff
and patrons.
● Foster a positive, welcoming environment for all library visitors by delivering exceptional
customer service.
● Supervise, train, and support circulation staff, ensuring high performance and team
collaboration.
● Work closely with other library departments to coordinate efforts and enhance the
overall patron experience.
● Maintain accurate records of circulation activities and prepare reports on usage and
trends.
● Troubleshoot and resolve any circulation-related issues, including patron concerns and
technical challenges with library systems.

Minimum Requirements

Required Skills:
● Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a customer-first approach.
● Experience in supervising, training, and leading a team, particularly in a customer-facing
environment.
● Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
● Proficiency with library systems and technology (e.g., integrated library systems, self-
checkout stations).
● Ability to work collaboratively across departments to ensure smooth library operations.
Preferred Experience:
● Master's degree in Library Science, Information Management, or a related field.
● At least 3 years of library experience, with a focus on circulation services.
● Previous experience in staff supervision and performance management.
