Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist/advise citizens of how to dispose of their bagged household waste and recyclables.

  • Shifts are 6 hours each, must be able to be on your feet for a good part of your shift.

  • Assist with sorting of recycle materials for transporting.

  • Must be able to lift but not limited to at least 25 pounds.

  • Prevent contamination of anything not accepted at the site for recycling or disposal.

  • Required to wear a safety vest at all times while on duty. (will be provided)

  • Must be able to communicate verbally with citizens.

  • Maintain a clean and safe center. (sweep and pick up litter)

  • Direct and/or hold traffic. Assist truck drivers for safety reasons.

  • Attendants must learn and follow guidelines provided by the Public Services Department and McDowell County Administration pertaining to employment and solid waste handling.

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma or GED Pre-Employment Drug Screening Valid NC Driver’s License is required.
