Position Objectives

 

This position is assigned to the McDowell County Parks and Recreation Department. Work hours will routinely be Monday through Friday and occasionally evening and partial weekend days. Physical requirements are standing for long periods of time, lifting up to 50 pounds, walking long distances, working outside in the heat and cold, and riding in vehicles.

 

The person in this position will serve as the primary Range Safety Officer  during all hours of operation. Overseeing all aspects of the Range and Range Programs including but not limited to; Open Range Time, Youth and Adult Education as well as Competition Shooting. In addition to managing the Range, this individual will be expected to work closely with the Director in fostering the growth of firearm familiarization and education to the public. Other specific duties and responsibilities will be discussed with applicant at the interview process.


Duties & Responsibilities

1. Assist with the Range Supervisor in daily execution of a safe and effective Range Programs for all segments, groups, ages, and interest levels.

2. This person shall have authorization to close the range or temporarily cease activity at any time should safety concerns warrant such or the site be found in need of maintenance.

3. This individual shall have authorization to require patrons to leave the range if they violate range rules or otherwise pose a threat to others.

4. This individual shall always ensure strict adherence to Range Procedures (RP) and monitor activity on the shooting lanes.

5.  Have the authority to call ranges "hot" and "cold".

6. As needed, assist patrons with appropriate range equipments instruction. 

7.  This individual shall always be familiar with and follow emergency response plans.

8. This person shall, from time to time, conduct minor repair of the range facility and perform general upkeep to the grounds to include litter pick up, "policing of brass," cleaning of public areas/restrooms facilities and repair to target stands and any other light maintenance.

9. Maintain and establish productive relationships with customers (the Public), including having professional and courteous communications.

10. Attend training as required.

11. Maintain a professional (personal) appearance.

12. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Candidate must possess a valid NC driver's license and able to operate a vehicle.

Candidate must be 21 years of age or older

Candidate must be eligible to obtain a concealed carry permit and must be eligible to open carry a firearm.

2.Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.

 

Physical Demands and Working Environment

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping. feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

 

Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

 

Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform accounting tasks, operate a computer terminal, do extensive reading, and drive a motor vehicle.
