Position Objectives

 

Performs responsible work collecting and transporting solid waste and recyclable materials from collection site to the transfer station or recycle center.


Duties & Responsibilities

​

An employee in this position is responsible for collecting waste and recyclables from several convenience centers, schools, and local government offices throughout McDowell County. Employee must be able to safely and proficiently operate vehicles that require Class B Commercial License. Vehicles will include but are not limited to a 40 cubic yard compactor truck, a roll off container truck, and occasionally a wheel loader with a front-end loader. These vehicles are Class B vehicles, tandem axles and air brakes. Work generally requires the employee to perform normal maintenance to vehicles and keep a daily log of route. Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Services Manager.

 

Examples of Work

Inspect truck prior to operation to insure the truck and equipment is ready for operation. Drive and operate county front load / roll off truck to pick up waste and recyclables located at collection sites, schools and local government office buildings.
Perform routine maintenance on trucks such as lubing forks, lifts, cleaning, checking tire pressure and checking fluid levels etc.

Environmental Factors

Employee must perform tasks that are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions; such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, extreme cold or hot weather, noise, vibrations, gases, oil or infectious waste.

Minimum Requirements

​

Experience driving/ operating heavy equipment Possession of a valid NC Commercial Driver License (CLASS B) is required.
