Position Objectives

 

The primary focus of the position will be to ensure all personal property located in the county is properly listed on the tax record.


Duties & Responsibilities

  1. To perform a variety of duties involved in the discovery, administration and appraisal of personal property within the county tax jurisdiction. 

    1. Identify all personal property within the taxing jurisdiction using all available sources.

    2. Compile and maintain an accurate listing of all personal property within the taxing jurisdiction.

    3. Ensure that each personal property owner is mailed a Listing Form.

    4. Calculate the market value of personal property using all available sources.

Minimum Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic mathematics as needed to calculate data such as market values

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and procedures. 

  • Knowledge of current laws, methods and procedures as outlined in the Machinery Act of North Carolina.

  • Ability to detect accounting and reporting irregularities.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with taxpayers and co-workers.

  • Ability to operate a computer and Assessing based software. 

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle. 

Two years of college level courses in a related field preferred or 12 months of tax appraisal experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be accepted.  Must also be able to complete all designations within required time periods.
