Position Objectives
The Executive Director performs professional and administrative work in the management of the McDowell County Tourism Development Authority. The director crafts, implements and oversees the budget and mission of the department which is to market and sell the county and its communities, as tourism destinations generating positive economic growth. The position reports directly to the organization’s Board of Directors.
Duties & Responsibilities

The Director creates, implements, and develops tourism-related programs, advertising, and operations including managing a visitor center, and researches the tourism industry for best practices and industry trends.

Minimum Requirements
Valid NC driver's license and the ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.

Desirable Training and Experience
​
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Graphic Design, Hospitality Management, or a closely related field.
Five (5) years of experience creating, implementing, and managing an annual budget in excess of $1 million. Proven ability to follow local and state auditing requirements while ensuring fiscal compliance following the state tourism legislative bill.
Five (5) years of professional experience in the tourism or hospitality industry or with an ad agency.
Candidates with combined related experience will be considered.
