Objectives
This job will be responsible for ground maintenance, mowing and weed control, cleaning up parking areas around buildings, trash pickup at county facilities and building maintenance of McDowell County facilities and related properties. Experience in lawn care and maintenance is preferred. This position is full time with a weekly schedule of Monday – Friday from 7:30 am – 3:30 pm. Under limited supervision performs a variety of landscaping and maintenance duties in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas and facilities throughout the County. Work involves operating, maintaining and performing routine repairs on medium to light equipment and using hand tools to trim grass, trees and plants. Supervises and assigns work duties of workforce inmates and community service personnel assigned to Facility Maintenance Department for grounds keeping and Facility Maintenance duties. Work schedule and assignments are coordinated with the Facility Maintenance Supervisor daily.
Duties and Responsibilities
Performs a variety of landscaping duties to include mowing, edging, fertilizing, mulching, planting, trimming, raking, pruning, watering, etc. Provides for the general care and maintenance of plants, flowers, grass and trees.
Cleans debris at County buildings, floral displays areas, parking lots and transports to convenience centers and dumpster sites. Cleans restrooms, and other county facilities. Maintains assigned vehicles, tools and equipment used in maintenance and landscaping duties. Performs preventive maintenance and routine repair on tools and equipment as needed to attain serviceability. Ensures tools and supplies are properly cleaned, stored and secured. Maintains order in equipment storage areas. Maintains an accurate inventory of tools and equipment.
Performs a variety of maintenance tasks to include painting, changing bulbs, assisting in plumbing and electrical repairs and assisting in carpentry work. Duties may include housekeeping and semi-skilled maintenance tasks maintaining cleanliness and repair of all county buildings, grounds, and other facilities.
Employees must abide by safety rules and regulations and use care and accuracy in handling chemical cleaning supplies. Work subjects the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards associated with maintenance work, fumes, chemicals, mists, gasses and oils. Duties may also expose the employees to human body fluids and thus the work is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens. Work is assigned daily and is reviewed by the Facility Maintenance Supervisor by observation of quality and quantity of work completed and timeliness of completion.
