Position Objectives

 

This position is assigned to the McDowell County Parks and Recreation Department. Work hours will
routinely be Monday through Friday and occasionally evening and weekend days. Physical requirements
are standing for long periods of time, lifting up to 50 pounds, walking long distances, working outside in
heat and cold, general facility maintenance and upkeep, lawn equipment use/operations as well as
driving and riding in vehicles.

The person in this position will serve as the Site Supervisor during all hours of operation. Overseeing all
aspects of the Park including but not limited to; Daily Operations, site rental and all upkeep and
maintenance.  In addition to managing the Park, this individual will be expected to work closely with the
Director in fostering the growth and marketing of the Park.  Other specific duties and responsibilities will
be discussed with applicant at the interview process.


Duties & Responsibilities

1. Assist with the planning, and daily operations of the Park. 
2. This person shall oversee the daily activities and operations for all patrons and Park Employees.
3. Ensure the Park and facilities are maintained at the highest standards.
4. This person shall have authorization to close the Park or temporarily cease activity at any time
should safety concerns warrant such or the site be found in need of maintenance. 
5. This Individual shall have authorization to require patrons to leave the Park if they violate rules
or otherwise pose a threat to others.
6. This individual shall always ensure strict adherence to County and Park Rules/Procedures and
monitor activity within the Park.
7. As needed, assist patrons with Park facilities.
8. This Individual shall always be familiar with and follow emergency response plans.
9. This person shall, from time to time, conduct minor repair of the Park’s facilities and perform
general upkeep to the grounds to include litter pick up, cleaning of public areas / restroom
facilities / bath houses and any other light maintenance deemed necessary.
10. Maintain and establish productive relationships with customers (the Public), including having
professional and courteous communications.
11. Attend training as required.
12. Maintain a professional (personal) appearance.
13. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements


Candidate must possess a valid NC drivers license and be able to operate a vehicle.

1. Ability to effectively communicate, motivate, evaluate and coach employees. 
2. Ability to develop and maintain relationships with the public, and employees. 
3. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms. 
4. Ability to write policies, and reports supporting the Park. 


Physical Demands and Working Environment: 

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping,
kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping,
feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. 


Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 10
pounds of force frequently; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. 


Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform accounting tasks,
operate a computer terminal, do extensive reading, drive a motor vehicle, and be able to inspect work
of others. 


Education and Experience

Graduation from a four-year college or university (preferred)
Military Experience (preferred)
High School Diploma (required) 
This Individual must have a general knowledge of the outdoors and outdoor recreational activities as
they may be called upon for assistance. (required)
